If it is crabgrass, it's a much different strain that is in the yards now
there are about 2 patches of what I know is crabgrass in my neighbors yard and looks nothing like this. I usually do a pre-emergent but didn't this year (which was stupid on my part, because my one neighbor, who does absolutely nothing to his yard, had some of that type grass pop up last year and is loaded this year with it). I'm definitely doing the pre-emergent next year. I've sprayed a little patch with crabgrass control and it did nothing to it.
My first inclination was that it is a Dallisgrass or Japanese Stiltgrass. I think both of those too are annual type grasses so if I use pre-emergent early next spring and maybe annual ryegrass overseed this fall I may get it under control before my yard looks like most others in my neighborhood.
