The Encyclopedia you refer to is a good resource but


most of its prescriptions are for hypertrophic endeavors. No such thing as training for definition really, that is a myth. You are either training for mainly strength or mainly hypertrophy or maybe a happy medium. Some of one will always be gained when training solely for the other. You need a few months of strength and mobility work then add in conditioning to the mix after that.

If you want a solid resource on which to base your strength training, I'd recommend Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe. Your body is a series of complex systems so you must train systems, not individual muscles.

I'm down in Richmond VA but I've put out feelers so give me a bit more time to locate some coaching recommendations in your area. With my contacts I'll find you a good one I'm sure!
