Weightlifting people, I need some advise.....

I was recently performing dumbbell presses; two sets per weight pyramid. I was on my sixth set. On my second rep. at the bottom of the movement I heard what best could be described as a crunching sound coming from my top of my right pec./shoulder(much like crunching potato chips in your palm).
I immediately put the weights down, and tried to figure out what I have just done to myself. I had very minimal pain, so I took some ibuprofen and assumed that I would feel it in the morning and see swelling/bruising.
Next day I had no pain, and I was able to work on shoulders, back, and arms through out the week with no pain what so ever.

My question, was this an anomaly? Or a warning sign of an impending injury?
I have tried to manipulate my body to replicate the movement that caused the sound with no luck. No pain with push ups etc. I would rather not blow anything at my age. Should I take time off, or work out and play it safe?
