Clemson's location inside of the SEC footprint is a very big deal in this issue. Swinney and Co. fiercely compete against SEC schools for recruits. SEC schools have played the "SEC card" against us in the recruiting wars for years. Playing in the ACC was frankly a liability on the recruiting trail in years past. The early to mid 2000s were dreadful for ACC football. WF and BC winning the Atlantic division is something that Tommy Bowden should never live down. That has greatly improved with the resurgence of ACC football in the past few years. Playing another P5 school besides that school down the road adds to our big time football resume on the recruiting trail. Playing another SEC school helps even more on the recruiting trail when you can say that you're playing and beating the SEC teams (LSU, Auburn, UGa, USCjr, etc.). Hopefully, we'll add Bama to our list of conquests soon. So I would place a high price on marquee OOC games with SEC schools for Clemson.
