B1G's scheduling agreement to drop FCS hurts in-state football.
Interesting article out of Chicago about the impact on Illinois schools. Tony Barnhardt gives a bit of a lecture.
“You say you don’t care if the little guys are able to keep playing football?" Barnhart wrote. "Well, you should. When you walk into the College Football Hall of Fame you come face to face with a three-story wall with over 700 helmets. That’s how many colleges and universities at different levels play football in the United States. The game is not healthy if only 100 schools can afford to play it. It can’t always be about what’s good for your team or your conference. Sometimes things have to be done for the good of the game."
We know that the SEC schedules these games right before the rivalry games. I don't want to see UVA give up games with William & Mary and Richmond. In state rivalries are good even outside of the ACC. VMI I can give up, but I don't want the ACC to implement this. The Big Ten can do as it likes, but it's better to grow the sport of football than to shrink it IMO. One game will not make an difference for the overall strength of schedule. There are other ways to address that.
