For the most part I do agree that FBS P5 schools shouldn't play
FCS schools. However, I do think the top tier FCS programs (i.e. North Dakota St, Montana, etc.) could compete with some FBS P5 schools and maybe even most FBS P5 schools if both teams had the same number of players. Plus, the FCS schools depend on football and/or basketball to fund their other athletic programs. So why should P5 schools be the only programs to depend upon football to fund their other programs?
Even though I understand why DI split into DI-A and DI-AA back in 1978, now I am starting to think it may have been a mistake. If the DI-A schools really wanted to offer more scholarships in football, then it would have been a lot cleaner to just create a brand new division level. It would have impacted all the other sports, but better to do it back then when money wasn't as big of an issue as it is now. Now the P5s are in a quandary because how big of a role the G5s play in all the televised sports (i.e. March Madness, College World Series, Frozen Four, Women's College World Series, track and field, soccer, and men's lacrosse).
