Temple needs to sustain that level of last season.

Sustained quality of football that goes to bowl games, draws crowds of more than 30,000, and is able to generate excitement around their football program and overall athletics department. It will take the continued commitment of the Temple President and Athletics Director to make it continue.

The efforts to get the new football stadium built, move the soccer and field hockey athletic fields to the former William Penn High School site, build the football indoor practice facility, etc. all need to take place. They need to move into these facilities and drive attendance.

Temple is not ready for P5 membership today, but they are making progress on getting there. They need to drive local interest in Philadelphia before looking beyond, and P5 television money isn't required to do that. They do need to spend the money to hold on to their coaches.

Their attractiveness to someone like the ACC is their geographic market. Temple needs to demonstrate that they are a major player in that market. I wish them good luck doing that. There are a lot of alumni of ACC schools in that corridor between DC and NY. Philly is right in it. It would provide a great venue for ACC alumni living there to see their school play Temple.

Regarding getting kicked out of the Big East, I saw that as a big mess. In fact I saw the entire league as a big mess, not to offend anyone. I thought all along that Villanova was undermining Temple. There was no reason to not allow Temple basketball to come into that league. The football only status was not a good model. VT had to go through that too. And VT was also kicked out of the Metro Conference. Politics played a role in a lot of these moves back then. I think Connecticut and Villanova expressed interest in moving to FBS football, and they orchestrated a way to make room by kicking Temple out. Temple had low attendance and Veterans Stadium was a dump. That made it easier to get passed by the members of the league.
