Re: ESPN will want a renegotiation because they will want a better per sub rate
Can we take a step back for a moment? So far, we have a "suggestion" that ESPN may rebrand their ESPN News channel as the ACCN. If that's true it affords certain benefits to ESPN: they may bargain for a higher carriage rate, they may sell more ads at better rates, they avoid paying the conference the payout "bump." What does it cost them? They can't fill 24/365 with the FB and MBB content that they own. They need to buy non-rev content and produce programming with that content. What will they pay for that? They need to produce "preview/review" shows, coaches shows, school specific "feel-good" programming. Will that cost more than they pay to produce ESPN News? They need to hire on-air talent. Just off the top of my head, that's the situation for ESPN.
How about the conference? How does the ACC make money on this?
