Agree on new thermostat.


Flush thoroughly, including heater core, especially if you've used any silicate based stop-leak additives.

A handy tool I use is a $20 OBD-II "dongle" that plugs into computer diagnostic socket under steering wheel column. Wi-Fi or Bluetooth options available for smartphone readings. Easy to track "true" engine temp readings from this tool.
