They aren't if you don't want a well-rounded university.

There are plenty of majors that could be cut as well. To tell you the truth, why have football other than to fund it? Just cut it out completely and tear the stadium down. They could put dorms or academic buildings there. There'd have been no angst over the stadium woods.
