Who do these nonrevs serve? Fans? Schools? Athletes? localities?

The fans hardly care about these non revenue sports. If so, there would be more butts in seats and better ratings.

The sports cost the schools MILLIONS of dollars each year for relatively little exposure.

The athletes are putting in 30 hours plus to compete. Are these kids better off playing UCLA, BC, and FSU than they would be competing against Radford, UVA, and JMU?
In fact, the players would probably be much better off instead of traveling up and down the EC to compete on a weekly basis. How's that effect their academics?

The NRV or Virginia aren't served by these nonrevenue programs.

Anyhow, I feel there's a MAJOR difference between what happens in college football and basketball games and what happens in college swimming and diving. So why not openly recognize that obvious fact? Let's treat those programs as what they are and create systems and rules that are adequate, just and enforceable. Then, let's de-emphasize the nonrevs. Again, is it really any difference for those kids if they are playing other schools from around the state or playing schools up and down the east coast? Those competitions should be treated like the high school level or intramural level affairs that they are.

And BTW, schools like Bama often sink their money into things like massive bands. That probably benefits the students and schools as much as track teams.
