I do understand why you feel the conferences are more like confederations


now and I do agree with you for the most part. For me, I do think that threshold depends on how a conference establishes its conference schedule. For example, if a conference has 12 members that are divided into 2 divisions for a sport (i.e. football), then it can still feel like a conference even though you don't play everyone every year because the 6 teams in the other division are divided into 2 groups of 3 that rotate every year or every 2 years. A similar format can work with 14 members, but only if they play a 10 game schedule. In that regards, that would probably be my limit for a conference. Anything beyond that is really more like a confederation.
