Not sure what announcers you're listening to


I've heard plenty of announcers say things like

"This is his 8th missed field goal of the season and he's really struggling to find his groove lately. In two games this season, a field goal ended up being the difference in the score"

or

"This batter is 2 for his last 23 with runners in scoring position. They're going to need to get production out of this spot in the lineup"

or

"This is her 8th illegal pitch today. She's really gonna need to adjust her pitching motion as other coaches are going to start complaining like FSU, and it could cost Virginia Tech some wins down the road".

Nobody is saying that any of these players aren't incredibly talented, and nobody is saying a team is better off without the player, but calling out statistics and the potentially adverse impact it will have on games is fair. Anyone saying it's improper to do so sounds like an overly protective parent who only wants to hear how great their kid is. We all have liabilities, and there's nothing wrong with politely raising them and how it may impact the team.
