Yes, Pete/Doug need to be prepared that we might run into a scenario like this again. Maybe more than once.

No, there is no quick fix to a pitcher's motion. Emma might be able to make a small tweak, but we probably won't see a major change that is EFFECTIVE (meaning one that allows Emma to be Emma) until the off-season.

Debatable, that the umpire made the correct call yesterday, and unlikely that the FSU series means that everyone has their eye on Emma now.

I respect that you're an umpire and have your own opinion. You are in the MINORITY on this particular issue, even among umpires. EVIDENCE: Emma has changed nothing. Short of trying to respond to umpire calls, she leaves the ground with her back foot on every pitch. All umpires see this with her, and with a lot of other pitchers. Three out of four, maybe 8 or 9 out of 10, choose NOT TO CALL this unless it is A) aggregious or B) providing an advantage to the pitcher (re-planting/crow hop). If not, we would see Emma called on nearly every pitch in every game.

The minority of umpires who choose to call based on the letter of the law, rather than the intent, are THE REASON THAT WE COULD VERY LIKELY SEE A RULE CHANGE inserted in the upcoming off-season. Understandably, the umpire's job is to enforce rules, so it is hard to justify that the majority are in the wrong, but those who are NOT calling are the MAJORITY.

The attention is 100% in the wrong place. When America (not just Hokie fans) are talking more today about the umpires (listen to the "In the Circle" podcast) in our game than they are about a great game (and a great series), we know that change is needed. In the best outcome possible, we should barely recognize that the umpires are on the field. Make it all about the girls and the game!
