Does not give the pitcher an advantage. That’s the most important point


Has been said over and over. Replanting the foot would give the pitcher an advantage. Simply having it leave the ground and not replant does absolutely nothing. It’s a matter of style. The rule is stupid, that’s why a lot of umps don’t enforce it. They get it.
