Is this new or recent or have they suffered from depression a long time?

I have nothing to offer either except to tell you of a couple of instances of which I am aware involving medication.

My wife's secretary took her own life after starting the drug Paxil. She had never exhibited anything that would make you think she would do something like that. Her husband said the doctor told him that Paxil sometimes has that awful side effect.

My brother-in-law was given Paxil for depression and he began having suicidal thoughts. For whatever reason he realized that those thoughts were not normal and took himself to the doctor. He was immediately taken off the drug and has had no problems since.

I cannot imagine the angst you are going through. Perhaps your own personal physician can give you some guidance.
