I would call

a local mental health facility in your area, explain the situation, and ask if they have suggestions on how to handle the situation. My daughter in law is a clinical psychologist and was recently appointed as the head of suicide prevention at Kaiser Permante in Atlanta. So,there are people in your area who are dedicated to suicide prevention and can at least offer ideas if your friend is resistant to seeking help.
