A half is a meaningful unit since the biggest adjustments are made then


Two halves of basketball are not two isolated samples with no influence on each other, because every coach is going to focus on playing to their strengths and shoring up their weaknesses from the first half. This is the main reason teams so often approach their mean shooting % after an exceptional half; because the other team did everything in their power to make that happen.

'Reversion to the mean' is not a statistical phenomenon for stochastic systems, but it's definitively a thing in college basketball.
