As discussed yesterday, the key phrase is 'until things were over'.
What does that mean? Does that mean a vaccine? Zero cases? Virus is eradicated? The threat of this virus is likely to last a VERY long time so a lot of people are going to have to start making difficult choices. I am one who believes that schools should be open. If you look at the real data coming out of European countries where schools opened you will see two things. First, children are essentially non-spreaders of the virus. Second, children are in almost no danger of health issues resulting from the virus if they do happen to catch it. Infection rates in those countries were essentially unaffected by opening the schools. In the US, 30 children in the entire country under the age of 18 have died from the virus and I would guess that nearly all of them had underlying health issues. During the same period, 120 children in the same age bracket died from the seasonal flu. And before anyone jumps on me for comparing COVID to the flu, I am certainly NOT making that case for those older than 30. But the numbers for the under-18 crowd don't lie.
I also understand the concerns of those who DON'T want to open schools - there are certainly valid points to that argument as well. It is a tough call for sure. We are sending our daughter back in the hybrid model but will send her back full time as soon as it is an option. We do not really have an issue with aging parents as my Mom is over an hour away and we don't see her frequently, especially right now.
Good luck - tough call for sure!
