I teach elementary and have a 6th grader and 4th grader with special needs
Our 4th grader constantly has her hands in her mouth and is a big hugger. She has an aide with her at all times. There is no way to keep a mask on her. So if anyone is likely to get sick, it's her.
There are 3 of us teachers at my grade level. One is seriously concerned about going back, the other is kinda worried, and I am less worried.
My parents live right down the road and are constantly over here or we are over there. Also, my father will likely be the one that will retire so he can help with picking up and watching the kids with this crazy schedule.
Both of my parents work at a hospital and they aren't concerned about the virus. So we are blessed that they are willing and able to help with our kids. If not for them, I don't know what we would do.
In our schools, teachers kids can go all day if they want, except Wednesday when all schools are closed. But that's only for elementary aged kids. We would still be stuck figuring out our middle school kid.
All that to say, I have no idea how all this will work out. I am sure we will have a case at my school in Blacksburg....how much it will spread is going to be interesting.
