My suggestion is don't resist arrest, steal an officer's taser, or...
...flee from police. It's tragic that this guy got killed, but if he had complied with the police, I guarantee he would be alive today. In this case, I don't blame the officer for what he did. Let's suppose he didn't shoot the suspect and the suspect used the taser against the officer and then took his firearm. Then what? It stinks that this officer lost his job and is going to be vilified, but at least he went home to his family.
Unfortunately, I don't see a perfect solution to these types of situations - I believe anything that makes it "safer" for people who resist arrest/run from the police also makes it more dangerous for the police and the general public. Having a "less than lethal" defense tool is great, but in this case, the suspect stole that option from the officer. When that happens, are we really going to ask an officer to stand down and risk his own life?
This situation is very sad, but as far as I'm concerned, it is totally different than the George Floyd death. By all accounts, George Floyd was not resisting arrest and was brutalized by bad police officer. In this situation, the suspect ran and showed intent to harm the police officer. That is a very important distinction, but sadly I don't expect many in the media to recognize that, which means we're probably going to see a lot more violent riots as a result.
