They get the real-time price. The after hours/pre-market prices fluctuate


to reflect the actual trading. But the volume of after hours trading is usually very low compared to the actual trading day, so the after hours prices don't have much momentum behind them.

The big changes you see at market opening are the result of the queue of orders that has built up overnight from the folks that don't have access to after hours trading.
