Only if Baylor fully implodes

I think it is 50/50 at best that the Big 12 expands when television contracts and GOR deals are up for renewal. If it does, I think schools outside Texas like South Florida are or should be stronger candidates . . . in large part because many of the existing Big 12 schools do not want more recruiting competition in Texas.

Houston would certainly be in line for a slot in the Big 12 if any existing Texas school left the conference. But TCU and Baylor aren't going to leave voluntarily, Texas Tech will leave only if it tags along after Texas, and if Texas leaves the Big 12 probably won't be a P5 conference.

On the other hand, if Baylor slips so far into the sewer that folks in the Big 12 choose to dump the Bears . . . which I think is unlikely but perhaps possible when the conference agreements come up, then I could see Houston taking Baylor's spot. I suspect that there are probably folks in the Big 12 who would trade Baylor for Houston right now if it was possible . . . but it's not possible without major financial consequences.
