Anybody have a good recommendation for a WiFi extender?

My parents have a smart TV in their basement and want to be able to watch Amazon Prime video on it, but the WiFi signal is too weak on that level of the house. They want me to swap their smart TV from the basement (which is wall mounted) with the stand mounted TV on the main level.....no thanks. Have any of you had luck with a relatively inexpensive (~$50 or less) WiFi extender?
