FIOS uses MOCA to provide network communications for the STBs

Or at least they used to. MOCA uses a coax medium for network communications. The FIOS router is a MOCA device, so you buy one MOCA extender, put it where you want your second WIFI access point, and the verizon equipment does the rest. Just make sure that the WIFI device is in Access Point mode, not Extender mode, or your bandwidth will be cut in half. In order to get the best performance, the COAX should be RG-6 and any splitters should be high quality (I used the BAMF splitter than passes up to 2.3 GHZ).

This worked when I had FIOS, but I didn't have their quantum service which may be different. I have Cox Cable now and need two of the MOCA extenders (one plugs directly into my router and the other at the remote location).
