Simple task. There's probably a bolt that takes an allen wrench. Loosen it up, then put one shoe on...leave the laces untied, and just use the velcro strap to hold it on your foot so you can get out of it easy. Test it to see if it will release to your satisfaction. If not, slip your foot out of the shoe & loosen more. Once that's adjusted properly, do the same for the other pedal. Once both are adjusted, recommend only using the velcro straps on your shoes the first time, and see if you can get the clips to release while riding it. If it's still too tight, roll up to something you can hold onto (car, wall, etc.) while you stop and remove your feet from your shoes. Loosen them a little more. Repeat until you are satisfied.

Once they are properly adjusted, you'll wonder why you didn't make the move to clipless pedals earlier.

I had the same problem the first time I rode my new road bike with clipless pedals. A couple falls because I couldn't get the pedals to release...lol
