The WVU brand is strong in college football and basketball. ESPN shows a lot of the WVU games now in the Big XII with good ratings. So WVU would help with the tier 1 contract. ESPN will pay for WVU. They are paying the Big XII for WVU. The rivalry games WVU has are good draws.

Second, WVU fans are very passionate, and they would push for and pay for the ACC network to see the WVU events. They will also travel well to attend football games on the road in the conference. The vast majority of WVU alumni live in the following states (West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, New Jersey, and New York) in that order per link. In addition, WVU has a lot of West Virginia diaspora who are not alumni living in those states that follow WVU. Many of these are ACC states with easy access to road football games. The WVU fans will buy tickets.

All of this would lead to revenue for ACC schools.
