Have told this story before

When the SEC picked Atlanta as their championship game home, they did it with purpose. The AJC ran an SEC championship game insert the day before the first championship game that had an interesting piece of info in it. At the time, maybe 94-95, Atlanta was the home to the second largest alumni base of 10 of the 12 SEC schools. The only two schools where Atlanta wasn't the second largest alumni base were Arkansas and Georgia (which Atlanta is its largest alumni base). Not sure any other conference has this characteristic, which probably contributes in some manner to the SEC's strength. Doesn't hurt that Georgia is a fertile recruiting area.
