Have those bowing down to TV markets forgotten what BC and VT taught us?
BC has done nada to "deliver" Boston to the ACC. And little ole Virginia Tech, in the little ole Roanoke/Lynchburg Market of BFE South West Virginia, has been a ratings boon for the ACC.
Yet, there are so many here who are obsessed with adding schools from massive TV markets.
Yes, they can be and should be a factor. However, the TV markets of respective schools are even less a factor than they were in the BC and VT to the ACC days.
Anyhow, I think it just makes people feel smart to talk about TV markets when it's obvious what should matter most is actual number of fans. A fan from Boston Mass. doesn't watch anymore games or buy more tickets than a fan from Riner, Virginia. In fact, one could make the argument that the fan from Riner, Virginia has less options with his or her entertainment time or dollar. He or she will spend more of both on college athletics than their urban counterparts. The entire SEC is an example of this.
