You never know....


I never thought there would be conferences with 14 members looking to expand to 16 back in 1990. I never would have predicted the Big 8 (now the Big XII, I guess) being on the verge of collapse. I never would have predicted Rutgers or UMCP in the B1G. I never would have predicted Tech in the ACC, as I figured we would always be blocked by the old charter members.

That said, there aren't many of us that can fathom the thought of conferences getting smaller. But you never know... crazier things have happened. I'd have no problem with contraction of conferences down to 8 or 10 schools, but that likely puts Tech back in the Big East with WVU, Pitt, SU and BC again. I'd be OK with that if PSU, Rutgers, UMCP and UConn were the other schools. Hell no to Louisville though.

And I agree that cable TV programming's bubble (especially with sports) is about to burst. I just think these mega conferences will reinvent the money making machine with other forms of media.
