I think it's the wrong question. The real question is...


Why are we tying multiple non-revenue sports with thousands of athletes, as well as academics, to the fate of a single sport?

Break off the football aspect of college sports into a separate bucket and leave the non-revs and academics alone so that they can benefit from local and regional partnerships. Then football can expand/contract to get the best deal that works for media as well as one that works for the universities and the communities that depend on revenue from football weekends.

But that can't happen right now because too many other factors are tied into the football conference moves.
