Those exact two games you mentioned are in totality the reason the SEC has one set cross division game each year for every SEC team. Not really reasonable but just a SEC fact. The two Alabama schools moving to the East Division would solve the problem as you stated. Auburn has requested being in the East but Alabama blocks it. Auburn wanted in the East again when Missouri entered the SEC but Alabama blocked it and therefore had Missouri put rather oddly in the East. Alabama wants to play Auburn yearly but already has that cross division game with Tennessee. That is the catch 22.

I don't think Alabama really doesn't want to be in the East. They like playing the Mississippi schools they historically dominate and playing LSU. Arkansas has never beaten Saban. I thought the division set-up when the SEC went to 12 would most likely have the two Tennessee teams in the West instead of the two Alabama teams. Not so, Alabama probably called all the shots back then. I think Alabama & Auburn always stay in the West. Missouri will only ever get where they rightfully belong by the SEC adding east teams.
