I think the SEC would jump at UVA + UNC, or even UNC + Duke

UVA + UNC is a no-brainer, imo, if they could do it. SEC wants academic credentials, and these two schools bring most of North Carolina, and part of Virginia-DC area fan base. Add up TAM, Vandy, UF, UGa, and then UVA and UNC, and suddenly you can sell SEC academics. UNC has proved it can hang in football (and in cheating - an unexpected bonus). UVA has great hoops and might climb out of the cellar in football.

UNC + Duke is almost as attractive. Only brings one new state to the conference, but instantly brings Kentucky-Duke-UNC hoops matchups. Football indifference of the schools a big negative.

Luckily for the ACC these schools are probably the most loyal to ACC and love the Olympic sports.
