I wasn't trying to compare it to Baylor's attempt to sweep it under the rug

Given that the climate on the subject matter is a lot different now, what I am asking is whether MV2 would have even had an opportunity to return to the team after serving his suspension? Or would the media storm be to the point where either VT or the review board doesn't give him an opportunity to come back to VT? If for some reason he was allowed to rejoin the school and the team, then would those decisions fuel whatever media storm existed at the time to grow bigger and maybe force VT to make decisions as a reaction to it? Baylor's inaction to address the issue did fuel the media storm into what has become today and ultimately forced Baylor to make the decisions it has made these past couple days.
