I gave you a range of 10 shots instead of 5 because it can sometimes


be difficult to judge a shot off target vs. a pass off target (i.e. crossing passing). Plus, your question didn't limit the time period. Those games do show that the USMNT is capable of taking that many shots in a game and it shouldn't be viewed as a once in a blue moon type of event when it does happen.

If the US had not gone into turtle mode after Costa Rica's second goal in the 57th minute, then it is possible that the US could have ended up with at least 5 more shots or maybe even closer to 10 more shots (including shots off target). So we might have seen ESPN claim that the US had 20 or so shots in the game. If the US had to secure a point to even qualify for the play-in game, then we may have seen ESPN claim the US had closer to 25 shots.
