I agree, the Alliance is a work in progresss
Treating The SEC and Big 12 as "minority shareholders" is not because the Alliance is opposed to those conferences. I think it is rather that the Alliance is opposed to ESPN hegemony. We will see if the Big 12 is brought into the Alliance after Texas and Oklahoma move out.
Another thing I am anticipating is the outcome of The B1G media deal. It should be humongous. ESPN will have to pay through the nose and if they don't they could be squeezed by the Alliance. If they have no B1G content and the Big doesn't schedule SEC teams, how do their national advertisers gain access to the B1G footprint? The ACC could compound that issue by scheduling only Southern schools, SEC, etc. The B1G and PAC could exclude the SEC and ACC in scheduling, inadvertently, of course, and the ESPN footprint becomes very regional. The Big 12 could play a role either way. If they side with the Alliance, ESPN will starve on Saturdays.
I believe that The Alliance schools eventually wish to include the SEC. But with ESPN in a less influential position.
I can see the major conferences and many lesser ones exiting the NCAA and freeing themselves of ESPN control as well. There will be ways that the schools organize their tournaments/playoffs to suit themselves while also allowing media companies to make a buck but without ceding any control to these media.
The revenue is about to get outrageous and I think a corporate business will replace the NCAA in order to exploit all of the opportunities.
