I think you're crazy to say there is


'no reason to believe our current roster won't be as good or better than the Sweet 16 team.' That was basically the only team in our entire history with a legit shot at Final Four. There is plenty of reason to believe that we won't be that good 2 seasons from now. I'm not going to make this a long post, but just for starters, under your scenario, every single player from Maddox to Wessler is going to develop perfectly and none of them are going to be busts.

Maddox - looks promising
N'Guessan - doesn't look promising
Pedulla - looks promising
Rice - supposedly going to be a stud - but Alexander-Walker is the best player we've put in the NBA in 20 years and he struggled some his freshman year.
Collins - again, lots of, he's 'going to be good' talk that has been heard about tons of recruits that were complete busts
Buchanan Jr - I wouldn't expect him to be ready to play consistent minutes next year or be as good as Mutts by 2023-24.
Wessler - right - finally a big guy that can play - I'll believe that when I see it.

If CMY wants to match Buzz, he needs to find a way to get Aluma and or Mutts to come back next year. And I'm not sure I would put that team against the Sweet 16 team. Two years from now is a lifetime.
