To me, this team feels really similar to the 2014-2015 Zach LeDay and Seth Allen years, where we were middle of the pack, had a few solid upperclassmen, but had some huge talent in the freshmen/sophomore class as well as some studs coming in. The head coach had been at the helm less than 4 years, but we saw the upside. I think we can all agree, though, the potential for our program now is higher than it was in those years with Buzz. When Buzz was in his first 1-2 years here, we didn't sell out games. Cassell Colosseum was a novelty, not exactly a tough place to play. I remember going to games and being able to hear conversations between people the entire section over. And then we pulled off some wins, landed some big recruits, saw our freshmen (Bibbs, Hill, Robinson) contribute in ways that we had so desperately wanted for so long.
I feel like we're on the verge of that team again, but better. That Sweet 16 team (Robinson, Outlaw, Hill, KBJr, Bibbs) had a ton of talent and was a shot away from beating Duke to advance to the Elite 8. Given what we've seen from this team, I have no reason to believe that our current roster, when our young guys are upperclassmen, won't be as good or better. When (fingers crossed nobody transfers) Maddox and N'Guessan are seniors, Pedulla is a Junior, and Rice, Collins, Buchanan Jr., and Wessler are sophomores, we're likely going to be a better team than that Sweet 16 team--I mean that.
