We are with BBT/Truist and were able to set up both kids with a student...

account that is free checking. Both accounts are linked to mine so I monitor each regularly and put money in from their own savings accounts or our checking account. The bank also offered an overdraft feature that draws from a savings account if they were to overdraw.

It's a one-way link, so I can see and transfer to their accounts but they can't see mine. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with how Truist handled it. My youngest needed to get a Virginia ID to open the account because she doesn't have a license or learner's permit yet, but that was the only hiccup.

Like others have said, it is important to teach them to be responsible with the cards, so I make them login to their accounts regularly to keep up with what they've spent. Having them keep a ledger in a checkbook was folly, so I introduced them to a spreadsheet that they have to keep up with, too.
