The Alliance is way more than just a scheduling agreement

The teleconference they originally held kept discussing "Student Athletes". I think they are going to reform the way Division I sports are structured and break away from the NCAA at this point. The SEC will either choose to go full tilt Semi Professional or join how the Alliance sets up. I think most conferences will want to be with the alliance setup as only the SEC truly sees itself as a Semi Professional league. I think the SEC only works if they continue playing on terms that all Division I athletics agree to. If they decide to play only themselves and disregard academics, most of the country will be un-interested. This goes for all sports, not just football. Imagine a baseball tournament or even a football playoff with only SEC teams in it. It wouldnt have nearly the same audience. I also think that the Alliance will eventually pool their media rights to counter the SEC ESPN mega contract keeping 2 "Alliance" OOC matchups a year per team and all of their regular 8 conference matchups under 1 media umbrella like the NFL does. It might be with more than 1 media partner though to maximize revenue. I think they found this to be more reasonable than poaching each other to death to try to keep up with the SEC. I dont think the BIG 10 wants to destroy the PAC12 and they understand that they need the ACC to counter the SEC's power. I think this is much more likely than the Big 10 poaching teams at this point. How big do you really want your conference to get when it is no longer really a conference? Does the BIG 10 really want to be a coast to coast conference? I dont think they do. It took them forever to just expand beyond Penn State. They will also all (including the BIG 10) see much more money by pooling their rights than going at it alone. It might take 10 years to consolidate them but once they do, look out. A coast to coast media deal with most of the biggest brands in Football and Basketball will entice all of the networks.
