I agree that it would only create more anti-Notre Dame animosity.
However, if Swofford was able to do it and approached Notre Dame about doing it, then how do you think Notre Dame would have responded to the offer?
For the record, I do agree with you that the idea's origins is definitely within the ACC camp. I do believe the idea came about because the ACC was looking for ways to increase the value of its football product without the current football members, particularly the private schools, investing more money into their product.
I never like the idea to begin with because it gave 1 more reason (like there needed to be any more reasons) to show that the ACC is probably not really ready to take on the responsibilities that come with being a power football conference. If anything, it only shows that the ACC will likely suffer the same fate as the Big East Football Conference.
