Yep, FSU and Miami need to be perennial Top 10 programs ...
Tech needs to be a perennial Top 25 program as does schools like UNC and NC State. UVA and GA Tech need to get better. Syracuse was good in the BEFC. Pitt has improved with Pat Narduzzi. Wake has over performed recently. Duke is Duke. The ACC has 'potential' but I agree with TerryD that the ACC leadership has created many of the present-day problems. They blew Virginia Tech off for 50 years. They lost South Carolina who ended up becoming a football independent. That tells you had much the ACC thought about football during those days. The Big 10, SEC, Pac-10 and Big 8 were all about football. The ACC was a basketball-first conference. They added GA Tech and later FSU. Not adding Penn State was a failure. Maybe by the early 1990's the ACC figured out that football powered the major conferences. Then the ACC raids the Big East but the geniuses in Greensboro exclude Tech in their original three BE additions. Pressure gets the ACC to finally add Tech. Miami and later BC join. Why BC? Boston TV market? WVU would've made more sense. Better football and superior fan base. Greensboro just didn't get it. Then they say WVU wasn't good enough for the ACC because of academics. ACC adds Syracuse, Pitt and Notre Dame as a non-football member. Maryland and FSU aren't happy with the additions and the GOR. Maryland surprises the ACC by bolting to the Big Ten. UConn appears to be the logical choice because the basketball schools prefer them. FSU and Clemson pressure the ACC into adding Louisville. Many ACC fans scratch their heads asking themselves why the ACC suddenly doesn't care about academics. Notre Dame's partial membership and the desperate move to add Louisville showed the conference's weakness. The Big Ten had the BTN and the SEC was working on the SECN. Even the Pac-12 had a network. Meanwhile, the ACC was streaming on ESPN3. By the time the ACCN got going, the party was pretty much over as far as cable model began to fall apart. It took a few years for Comcast to carry the ACCN. The SEC and B1G have been better managed. They have better TV deals. The revenue gap has widened. The SEC and B1G have surpassed the ACC in men's basketball. ACC football minus Clemson is mediocre at best. Notre Dame should be the least of the ACC's worries. The ACC needs more innovation. Football needs to get much better.
