Even if this reorg blows everything up, it doesn't mean structurally things
will be that different than what happened in 1971. If you think about it there is not that much of a difference between going from 1 division to 3 divisions vs. going from 3 divisions to 4, 5, or 6 divisions. Also, remember in 1971 all 3 divisions had to create their individual bylaws (aka the NCAA manuals) from scratch in addition to deciding which issues would be voted on at the division level vs. the entire NCAA. I seriously doubt this re-org will be that much different.
As far as whether the NCAA tournaments will exist or not, why wouldn't they exist? There is no logical reason for the NCAA or whatever the new association name (if it changes its name) not to sponsor a national championship for all the sports its sponsors at all the division levels. Even though fans are primarily interested in the power conferences, the world doesn't revolve them. The other DI conferences, DII, and DIII will do just fine if the power conferences decide to go off and down their own thing.
