It means they know they can't get 12, they will take the 8 which still


gives the SEC a change at 3 bids. Assuming 6 auto bids for the highest ranked Conference Champions and two at large. The SEC could still get 3 bids with one for the Conference Champion and 2 at large.

That's better than the 2 they can realistically get, if it stays at 4. Then in 2025 it will be a majority vote instead of a unanimous vote and of course they will try to expand it again then. It's going to be tougher though, since everyone knows what they are trying to do with the OU and UT expansion.
