Hampton is trying to do what Tenn State did a long time ago

by being a HBCU in a non-historically black athletic conference. At least I believe Tenn State was the first HBCU to join a non-historically black athletic conference (OVC). In all honesty, the Big South is probably a good fit for Hampton to get its feet wet in that kind of environment. Hampton probably should spend a couple years in the Big South before making the jump to the CAA. Although Bill & Mary would probably welcome the local rivalry sooner rather than later.

WRT Howard possibly joining the CAA, that is an interesting choice given Howard's struggles in the MEAC. I mean Howard has had a few good years here and there in various sports over the years. However, I don't think Howard has ever really dominated a sport in the MEAC (at least not in recent years). Is Howard truly ready for the jump up in competition or is this purely a financial move and the administration is content with Howard being a cellar dweller most years in the CAA?
