Yeah, I get it, tennis centers are probably not high on the sympathy scale, the 30 or 40 people who got their two minutes each was a battle of "for the youts of America" (one of the county council members mentioned her 80 yo dad still playing tennis, so them too, leg braces and all) versus the NIMBYs eg "How many of you live in Millersville? huh? Huh?" (Me: Hell no, who the heck would want to live in a dump like that?") and to be fair, where I live we had a NIMBY issue a few years back, placing a home for recovering alcoholics/drug users up by the high school. Not that I got involved, but thinking that was not a great idea. Or maybe it is, teachers can point up the hill and tell the kids they will end up like that if they don't study harder. Never got built. so yeah, depends on whos ox is getting gored.

What a circus these things are. opened with the a report from auditors, apparently everybody's getting bombed with ransomware attacks at considerable costs. The guy from the NAACP got up mentioned Colin Powell "He was wrong but apologized for it" uh, dude, on the day someone passes either say nice things about him, or nothing at all. (as did the chair(wo)man OK, not sure what that has to do with AAC but whatever) Then crazy woman gets up and says something about an affidavit and how she wasn't told about this something..etc. etc. At the end of her two minutes the chairman says, thank you, see you next week to the guffaws of audience. Apparently, she shows up every week for the fun of it I guess. even did another 2 minutes as an anti-tennis person. Another anti gets up and talks about "OK, so now you're going to have to punch another hole!?" meaning another water well. "All that water in towers comes from wells" I'm guessing there are water table issues already. I think if you were say, a writer with writer's block, I would recommend going to one of these hearings to get lots of ideas for plots and odd characters.

The crazy thing about all of this is that it's been going on for eight years, and now, it's dead. They had successfully gotten a yes vote somewhere on land use, apparently the property is zoned for recreation only, so it can only be used for things like this, they created a public-private project the funding is secured and no doubt a dozen other hoops and hurdles passed and now it's dead. To quote the team managing the project "You've not only defeated the tennis center you've defeated the process" Yeah, how would you ever get anything done without say, greasing palms?

Anyway, back home safe in Hard County, with our ten public indoor courts which I will use in the coming months, the sun is shining on our happy lives.

PS The next group up at the council was for one of the council member's proposal to ban "critical race theory" sorry I missed that, but I just didn't have the stamina and popcorn.
