So the coach shouldn't be honest about his evaluation of the player?


Always selling your guys to the folks at the next level is not a wise strategy. You lose credibility when those folks realize your evaluation was off base or even b.s.

Beamer and his coaches were very successful recruiting in VA for many years because they had deep relationships with HS coaches who wouldn't blow smoke. They actually steered VT AWAY from players who were problematic at times.

I'd like to know a lot more about what was said by Fuente. If he just gave his honest assessment of the player, that isn't "badmouthing" him. That's being honest. Badmouthing is going out of your way to focus on the negative and the critical to intentionally harm someone's prospects.
