Here is a huge obstacle to 24-28 team conferences: Finances. What teams


can the SEC or B10 add that will increase their per school payout. Some are predicting the SEC will be paying out 80 million per school with Texas and OU. There are not many schools that can increase that. If you expand just to 20 schools then those schools need to be worth an extra 100 million to the conference just to increase the payout from 80 to 81 million. If a Clemson could add an extra 200 million that would only increase the per school payout from 80 to 86 million. The more schools you get in the conference, the larger the financial benefit needs to be because there are more mouths to feed. USC, FSU, Clemson, ND might be the only schools currently not in the B10 or SEC that would actually make financial sense for either conference considering the size of payouts these conferences are paying. The idea of even the top half of the ACC merging with the SEC as some suggest makes no sense financially.
