Of the Big 3 events this summer (NIL, CFP-12, UT/OU to SEC)

The last one, UT-OU, is by far the largest. It's gross. It basically was the start of blatantly kicking small but quality football schools to the curb. It's like catching a fish that is too small to take home. But instead of putting it back in the water to live for another day and even grow, you just throw it on the embankment and watch it die slowly.

The article was good analysis. But I disagree with his conclusion. But I'll get to that last.

First, I like the Nick Saban quotes. He called it back then and now. More games devalue games. More playoff games devalue the playoffs and the regular season. It's easy to say when you are the top dog. But maybe he is the top dog because he's right all the time.

There was a comment that was apropos by an Aggie in the comments section. To paraphrase, he say that the bottom feeders in the SEC and B1G should beware. Then some Vandy shill said that they were "safe" because they've been a conference member for 100 years and are "grandfathered in". LOL. Tell it to Oklahoma State, who has been conference mates with OU for almost a century. But understand this warning: the new wave of expansion doesn't give a damn about tradition or history.

Now, to the conclusion. The guy was quite cavalier in the end and basically went against the premise of his article. First, he says "The true joy of college football is watching your team compete against other teams, both bitter rivals and others." Yes people will likely still watch their team, but the problem is two fold. 1) Will they watch OTHER games? I doubt it. I for one will always watch the Hokies and go to our games. But will I watch South Carolina vs. Texas in the Brave New SEC? Nope. 2) If you yank rivalries from fans, will they continue to even watch their OWN team as much? Probably not. This is what being-taken-for-granted looks like.

The other thing that's even more idiotic that he said in the end is that somehow the fans really love the controversy. The author (UF alum--naturally) said, "And of course the greatest tradition of all in college football: complaining about college football … will still be in full effect. Whether it’s conference structure, the postseason or scheduling tactics, there will still be plenty to complain about. So don’t worry." I for one am SICK of the off-the-field factors determining winners and losers. It's not fun. It used to be silly, now it's suicidal.
