Your last sentence is exactly what I think they're going for.


My one exception is I think they will want to get UNC in the SEC. UNC will have options and maybe we shouldn't assume they'd go to the B1G. Texas didn't. I wonder how much of a lead it was for Mack Brown to throw out there UNC's brand strength.

My guess is they want to get 20-24 into the SEC. I'm wondering if a conference gets to 24, could they change to rules to allow a 4 team conference playoff? I think ESPN would like to keep FSU, Miami, Clemson, UNC, an ACC school from VA (I'm assuming VT here), and Notre Dame if they can swing it. I think they're ok with losing GT, UVA, and Duke (and maybe Pitt) to the B1G if that were to happen. I'm not sure how much they care about the other schools. They probably want to keep them if they can, but at a lower payout in the AAC maybe.

Not sure what other schools to add: WVU and Kansas for rivalries? Throwing darts here though.
